GIRL, When God Gives You a Second Chance: Will You Stay in Position?

Writer's picture: K. Fleming K. Fleming

Hi, my GIRLS, I had an entirely different blog prepared about Trusting God’s Timing and having patience in the process for you today. The words were written, the message was clear, and I was ready to hit publish. But then–Holy Spirit shifted me in another direction. What I thought needed to be shared was replaced with What God needed to be heard.

This was for me first before I shared it with you. It’s about positioning–about what happens when God gives you a second chance. WIll you stay in place, ready and willing? Or will you waver, unsure of His plan? It isn’t just for  us, it's for those we are called to reach.

There comes a moment when God gives you a second chance—a moment when He asks, Will you trust My plan and stay in position, or will you remain stuck in the place of doubt, afraid to fully surrender?

I had to face that question head-on. After receiving a second chance, I stood at a crossroads: Was I going to trust Him completely, or would I continue holding on to my own understanding, letting fear and uncertainty dictate my steps?

At first, I hesitated. Trusting His plan meant releasing my own letting go of what I thought was best and embracing the unknown. And that’s not always easy. But the moment I truly surrendered, something shifted. God began to reveal things to me—about myself, about situations I had struggled with, and about the deeper roots of my hesitation. He showed me how past wounds, unspoken fears, and even my own desire for control had been hindering me from fully embracing His will.

It wasn’t just about trusting His plan; it was about healing, about recognizing the things I had unknowingly allowed to keep me bound. And as I released those things, clarity came. Peace followed. I saw His hand in places I had overlooked before.

Sis, if you’re standing at your own crossroads, I want to remind you—trusting God’s plan doesn’t mean it will always make sense in the moment. But when you truly surrender, He will give you the revelation you need. Not just about where He’s taking you, but about what’s been holding you back. The question is—will you stay in position?

I pray that as you read this, you open your heart to what He’s saying. Because sometimes, the

shift isn’t just for us—it’s for those we are called to reach.

Will You Stay in Position for your Second Chance, or will you move before the breakthrough?
Will You Stay in Position for your Second Chance, or will you move before the breakthrough?

Let's Dive In

Life is full of moments where we fall short, make mistakes, or take a wrong turn. Yet, God, in His infinite mercy, is a God of second chances. When He restores us, the real question is: Are you willing to get in position and stay there no matter what? Will you keep your eyes on what He has placed before you, or will you be distracted by what is happening around you?

God’s Mercy in Second Chances

The Bible is filled with stories of people who received second chances—people who failed but were given the opportunity to get back in alignment with God’s will.

1. Jonah – A Second Chance to Obey

Jonah ran from God’s assignment and ended up in the belly of a great fish. But after crying out in repentance, God gave him a second chance to go to Nineveh. The Bible says:

"Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: ‘Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.’" (Jonah 3:1-2, NIV)

Jonah had to make a decision—would he stay in position and complete the assignment or run again? This time, he obeyed. Likewise, when God calls us back into position, we must be willing to stay there despite our fears or discomfort.

2. Peter – A Second Chance to Stand Firm

Peter denied Jesus three times, but Jesus restored him and reaffirmed his calling. In John 21:15-17, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him, and each time, He told Peter to feed His sheep. This was Peter’s second chance to walk in his purpose.

Peter’s story teaches us that even when we fail, God’s love and grace restore us. But once restored, we must commit to standing firm, even in the face of opposition.

Staying in Position Despite Opposition

When God positions you, there will always be distractions and resistance—often from those who are uncomfortable with your anointing.

Nehemiah – Focused Despite the Opposition

When Nehemiah set out to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he faced opposition from Sanballat, Tobiah, and others who were annoyed by his anointing. They tried to distract him with ridicule, false accusations, and threats. But Nehemiah refused to come down from his assignment.

"And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?" (Nehemiah 6:3, KJV)

Like Nehemiah, when God gives us a second chance, we must remain focused on our assignment. We cannot allow negativity, discouragement, or the opinions of others to move us out of position.

Don’t Let the Distractions Move You

The enemy will try to shift your focus. People may misunderstand your calling. Some may even resent the favor God has placed on your life. But remember:

  • Stay focused on your purpose (Colossians 3:2 – "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.")

  • Trust God's plan, even when it’s uncomfortable (Isaiah 55:8-9 – "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.)

  • Remain steadfast in your faith (Galatians 6:9 – "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.")

Conclusion

God’s second chances are not to be taken lightly. When He restores you, He expects you to stay in position and walk in obedience. The distractions will come, but will you remain focused on what’s in front of you rather than what’s around you?

Make up your mind today: I will not let those who are annoyed by my anointing move me out of position! Your obedience and endurance will lead to the fulfillment of God’s promises in your life.

A Prayer for Those Ready to Stay in Position

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God of second chances. I acknowledge that I have fallen short, but I thank You for Your grace that restores and renews me. Lord, help me to stay in position, to remain focused on what You have called me to do, and to not be swayed by distractions or opposition. Give me the strength to endure, the wisdom to discern, and the courage to stand firm in my purpose. Let me walk in obedience and faithfulness, trusting that You are with me every step of the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your Challenge

Take time to reflect on where God has given you a second chance. Are you fully in position, or are distractions pulling you away?

1. Identify one area where you need to refocus.

2. Write down a declaration to stay in position, even when challenges come.

3. Pray daily for the strength to remain steadfast in your calling.

Let this be the week you recommit to standing firm, staying focused, and walking in obedience. No matter what comes against you, stay in position!

“Was I going to trust him completely or continuing to hold my own…” OMG ME! This is truly where the rubber meets the road. It’s seemingly easier to lean to what is comfortable (our understanding) than to embrace the unfamiliar yet better way. Whewwwwww thank you for this transparency and challenge to completely trust God

That part Sis! It's so easy to be content in our comfort zone but who can we help, be a testament to if we are set in our comfort zones. This is when we self-reflect and realize that this is bigger than us. We have lives that are dependent upon our obedience and our ultimate yes even in the midst of unsurety or the outcome. Glad that my obedience was a blessing to you.

GIRL, this right here is a Word! 🔥

God’s second chances aren’t just about redemption; they’re about realignment! When He calls us back into position, it’s because there’s STILL purpose in us.

Sis, I felt this in my spirit—how often do we hesitate, letting fear, doubt, or even past failures keep us from fully stepping into our assignment? But when we truly surrender, we see that God’s plan was always greater than our fears.............Wheewwwwww 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 LORD FORGIVE ME FOR GETTING OUT OF POSITION!!! Baby it be sooooo HARD!!!! But it's a daily denial of self and surrounding my will and yes to God. I might would be ok if it was 1 or 2 or 3 surrenders, but God is…

I understand where you are coming from wanting to throw away the position, give it to someone else to do it because of being drained, over it all, not wanting to P. R, E.S.S. (Persevering Resiliently while Enduring Struggles with Strengths), but the assignment is way bigger than us. There are people waiting us (you) to show up. Thanking Him for the second or twenty-second chance to stay in position and stay planted until otherwise instructed to do so by Holy Spirit. Dr. C you got this, and God and Holy Spirit has you. As long as we daily die to our flesh daily and remember Galatians 2:20. I'm standing with you as we hold and lift each other up…

Sisssss, this blog is right on time!!!!

In my own life, I have experienced the profound impact of second chances and the importance of trusting in God's plan. There was a moment when I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of which path to take and feeling overwhelmed by doubt and fear.

It was during this time in which I was given a second chance—a moment where I had to make a choice: would I trust in His plan and stay in position, or would I allow my uncertainties to hold me back? The decision was not an easy one, as it required me to let go of my own understanding and surrender to His will completely.

As I reflected…

As most of our hesitations are rooted in fear, doubt, and wanting to feel or be in control, so you are not alone. I had it bad, I would allow others to do a thing when I knew all well that I could do it or had the gift to do it but wouldn't do it due to fear, doubt, or not feeling adequate enough to do it. Which were All lies of the enemy we allow ourselves to believe but when we remember who we are and who's we are we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us! Our Breakthrough and freedom are in our total Surrender to Him. Thank you for sharing.
