How to manage the overfilled mind through developing a Christian Mindfulness Routine

The title for this blog was inspired by a Christian Tee that I purchased for my birthday in 2021. I found the Tee company through a FB ad in my timeline, and it instantly resonated deeply with me.

In 2021 I along with the rest of the planet was trying to navigate a new world order of business called "Surviving A World Pandemic named Rona". This was added on top of trying to navigate the standard day-to-day business as usual of LIFE (family, friends, relationships, jobs, kids, pandemic restrictions, unpacking Trump Administration Trauma, Biden administration, and the liberal takeover, Black Lives Matters and the world set ablaze with racial unrest) It was ALOT, to say the least, that I was having to try and manage. Then just went I thought I would go over the deep end, God shined the light from the lighthouse through a simple tee-shirt catchphrase. As I began to ponder over this tee-shirt phrase something began to shift within me, that would soon rid me of a mind overfilled with thoughts that were never intended for me to manage. I found freedom through learning to only Mind the Business, The Lord has given unto Me through the mastHERing the Art of Christian Mindfulness.

Are you Minding Your Business or

Minding the Business, The Lord has given unto You?

There's a cute little slogan that I used to ascribe to on my social media post

"Sis I'm drinking my water and minding my business"

Now my skin is clear and got my edges back, and all that jazz lol lol. Well, the truth of the matter was I was overwhelmed and filled with anxiety trying to manage a million thoughts and things that I needed to do for myself, I needed to avoid, and I needed to do for others that overfilled my mind. I mean the world was literally on fire, and just one word from God extinguished the fire and filled my mind with beauty for ashes. Minding your own business is much too much! You are minding much more than God has assigned to you. It's time to have a sit down with the boss and reset your assigned duties and responsibilities within the scope of your role, which is a DAUGHTER of the King!

Once you can clear the clutter of the business that was never meant for you to manage, you will find the peace of mind and fulfillment that comes with minding the business that the Lord has given unto you. I found Mental Clarity and a path to peace and fulfillment through developing a Christian Mindfulness Routine. Whether you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, burdened, in a space of overthinking, depression, or whether you are in a healthy mental space I feel that we can all benefit from developing or enhancing our Christian Mindfulness.

This blog is designed to help you manage your mind by developing a Christian Mindfulness Routine

What is Christian Mindfulness and Why Is It Important?

Christian mindfulness is the practice of putting our focus and attention on God, the father, Son and Holy Spirit..

In order to get a better understanding of what mindfulness looks like with a Jesus-centered approach, ask yourself these questions:

  • What is your mind full of?

  • Is it full of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors, on yourself or on something else?

  • Or is your mind full of God?

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

Romans 8: 5-8, NIV

Christian Mindfulness Daily Routine

1. First Order of Business: Begin Your Day with God

In order to know the business of the day it is important to begin your day with God in the first moments of your day. This can mean talking with Him through prayer, or being silent and still in His presence; sitting with the Holy Spirit, your sole focus directly on Him, praying and listening to Him too. Consider this as your morning briefing.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:24-25, NIV

2. Ground Yourself in Gratitude

Oftentimes, it’s much easier to focus on what might be happening, on what’s not happening, or on what has already happened than on what’s currently happening. Ultimately, it benefits us physiologically, energetically, emotionally, and spiritually to train our minds to return to what is happening right here, right now—and the meditative anchor of gratitude can ground us effortlessly back into reality. Gratitude helps us see God.Gratitude opens our spiritual eyes. There’s a beautiful cycle in giving God thanks: the more we thank Him, the more we see Him working in us and around us. Gratitude helps us sense God’s presence, His personal care and His perfect timing.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

3. Infuse Worship Music within your daily playlist

Worship music is so powerful and there are many benefits of adding it to your daily life. Worship music has become a part of my daily routine and is something I look forward to. I don’t know how things would be nor would like to imagine how my life without my faith in God. It has gotten me through difficult times and helps me to keep my focus on God rather than my circumstances. Worship music helps me to see the good and reminds me daily that God is ALWAYS good. Worship music infuses Hope into your day, it brings peace to the spirit, amd allows you to feel God's presence.

Here are some of my go to's that are part of my daily mindfulness playlist

4. When things, people, conversations, opportunities arise,

Run everything by the Holy Spirit

We bring great trouble on ourselves when we act without first seeking God’s counsel. We need God to direct our thoughts and actions. The enemy will send distractions our way. He will cause us to feel that things need an immediate answer or response from us when in actuality God reminds us time and time in his word to WAIT! Replace action with let me think on that, let me check my schedule, let me see if that will work for me, let me get back to you, let me pray about it. These phrases give you room to be present and make fully resolved decisions and actions.

Psalms 27:14 - Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Isaiah 40:31 - “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Let us Pray

Dear God, Help us build upon the foundation of mindful living by practicing patience, without judgment, expressing generosity, and constantly living in gratitude. We suspend the striving towards something and simply accept and let be what we are, where we are, and who we are in each moment. Remind us that we are right where you want us to be, and we will get to the expected end that you have for us if we keep our hearts and minds stayed on you. Help us to mind only the business that you the Lord has given unto us. Amen

So begin to read this at the beginning of the month but didn't get chance to comment because life started lifing. Days later my husband lost his brother then 2 weeks later we lost his grandmother. I began to feel overwhelmed with grief & trying to be his superwoman but God said did you consider me. I begin to pray & ask God to guide my footsteps & allow me to be very intentional about his business & my family. God showed me that in this season I only need to focus on him, my family & my priorities! Doing so has given me the strength I need to be the wife my husband needs, the mother my kids need,…

Every morning I wake up and start the morning off with prayer. I have learned to avoid certain distractions of the world as little as having to stop watching the news daily ( morning and night). I would get so caught up in the issues of this world and how bad things are and not think of how blessed we truly are. For several months I have noticed A shift in my outlook and response to things. Instead of watching he news I spend my morning time meditating and praying.
